Did you know that one of the benefits of the OPU-ICSI technique is optimizing the use of frozen semen doses, even from deceased animals?
Typically, a standard straw of frozen semen contains several hundred million sperm. However, only one healthy sperm is needed for each egg, eliminating the need to thaw an entire straw for an ICSI session. Instead, we perform small “ICSI cuts” in the straw under liquid nitrogen, allowing us to use the same straw for up to 5-6 ICSI sessions. For exceptionally good frozen semen, we can cut smaller portions and use one straw for multiple sessions of OPU, oocyte aspiration, and ICSI, techniques that will be explained in our upcoming online seminar.
