Purebred Spanish Horse

The Pura Raza Española or Purebred Spanish Horse (PSH) is well known in many countries, where it has been very easy adapted  to their exploitation and management systems and has been involved in the formation of other equine breeds.
It is important not to fall into other denominations such as Iberian or Carthusian horses, since they do not correspond to any breed, the Carthusians being a family within the PRE.
The Official Catalog of Spanish Livestock Breeds includes the Purebred Spanish Horse breed in the Group of Autochthonous Breeds for Promotion.

PRODUCTION CHARACTERISTICS AND EXPLOITATION SYSTEMS

Its exploitation system follows the semi-extensive pattern, with large enclosures that allow the animals to maintain their good physical shape due to the daily exercise. Its specimens are very well positioned in the market, so their feeding is taken care of to the smallest detail.

It has a Genetic Improvement program through which the specimens are genetically evaluated, and the best breeders are selected according to dressage, morphology, or their aptitude for the saddle.

The sporting results of this breed are exceptional, including the Bronze Medal at the WEG in Jerez de la Frontera (Cadiz) in 2002 and the Silver Medal at the Olympic Games in Athens in 2004.

GEOGRAPHICAL DISTRIBUTION

The PSH horse is the most widespread breed in Spain, distributed throughout all of its Autonomous Communities, and is also present in 62 countries, both in the European Union and in third countries.
